Guess who’s baaack?! Did you miss me? Or, did you not even realize I was gone? Awkward…
Although I’m sure no one was hanging on the edge of their seats waiting for my return to blogging, I sure was! Listen, I didn’t just fall off the wagon, I crashed the wagon and it was pretty much obliterated entirely. But, I truly did miss blogging and I’m so excited to get back into it. I would love for my first blog post back to be about something exciting or juicy, but I think it’s important to maybe explain a little bit about why I started blogging in the first place, why I stopped, and where I’m hoping to go with this in the future. So, here goes nothing!
As some of you who may have been previously following me know, I started a blog last December. Something you should know about me is I have always had a passion for traditional media, social media and content creation. The thing is, I never had the guts to pursue it. YouTube seemed way too daunting for me to start out with, podcasting is something I would love to try out with a friend in the future but my bank account is suggesting I hold off on that for a little bit, and when it came to blogging I was scared that nobody would care. However, as I’ve gotten older I’ve realized it’s pointless to sit around thinking of the “what-ifs”, but instead we should experiment with things that have the potential to make us happy and excited about life. If they don’t work out…so what?! At least I can say that I tried rather than wondering what would’ve happened if I did. So, I started blogging…and then I stopped.
After starting the blog last year, I really did enjoy it as a creative outlet and a project to work on in my free time. However, I stopped blogging because I honestly wasn’t extremely passionate about the content I was creating. Do I love fashion and do I enjoy making pretty cakes for special occasions? Sure! But, they’re not my passions.
Let me tell you, I’m no Betty Crocker and I wear pajamas whenever I get the chance.
So, I was kind of stuck between a rock and a hard place. I missed blogging, but needed to switch directions if I was going to get any enjoyment from the work I was putting into it. Not to mention, I had to come up with a plan and schedule since life has gotten quite a bit busier for me these past few months. I thought long and hard about the content that I enjoy consuming the most and what I’m passionate about, which is when I came to a conclusion on where the hell I was going to take this interest of mine.
When I watch YouTube, my favourite type of content to consume, hands down, is just people talking. Talking about what you may ask? Life, experiences, story times, advice, struggles, even just people talking about their day. This is also why I’ve developed such a love for podcasts. Look, I’m a nosy person and I’ll be the first to admit it. It doesn’t stem from a bad place, I’m just nosy because I love learning about people and what has made them who they are and why they think the way they do or how they handle life’s obstacles.
I realized that, although making a festive cake can be a lot of fun and can make for a good blog post, I really just wanted to share my life, struggles, achievements or whatever else I happen to be experiencing, in hopes that maybe someone else could relate to it or maybe gain a new perspective on things. As scary as it is, I want to be as genuine and authentic as possible through my blog posts and if that means sharing an embarrassing moment about ripping my pants that were too small for me at work or sharing a story about how I was dumped, then so be it! I want this blog to be an authentic reflection of who I am, and hopefully I can make someone smile or feel a bit better about themselves along the way.
I really want to see what happens if I start taking blogging seriously. So, for about a month I’ve “re-branded” if you will. I created a new logo, invested in a new blog design and have planned out content for almost a whole year. Yes, one whole year! I’ll be coming at you every Sunday with a new blog post. I’ll be posting about a variety of different topics, like being a plus size gal and all that comes with it, body positivity and learning to love yourself, my experiences with dating and relationships, mental health and a lot more! There are some posts that I hope will make you laugh from second-hand embarrassment, but there will be some that I hope will prove to be really insightful and inspiring. I’m so excited to start tackling this goal of mine and blogging consistently for a whole year, and I hope you’ll join me for the ride!
Talk to you next Sunday, thanks for reading!
